K2 Learning Journey
The K2 learning journey ended successfully on November 12, 2020 . Each class introduced the learning results around the first unit”Who we are”.
Our learning journey was divided into two parts. The first part is the introduction of the unit, through a presentation from the children and teachers. The second part was a student led introduction into what they have learned over the past eight weeks.
Presenting a variety of performances; ranging from English songs and dance, Chinese poetry, individual booth presentations, the children showed a sense of confidence in front of their proud audience. The students cooperated with the parents to showcase their knowledge; providing insight into their growing understanding of their overall health and well-being.
With their encouragement from their teachers, thechildren became little teachers to show theirparents the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Following weeks of learning about the importance of their overall well-being, and how to take responsibility for their health, the K2 children showcased their particular interest in becoming more independent. Covering such a broad topic, the Who We Are unit allowed the children and teachers, to dive into various avenues of well-being. Encompassing physical health, emotional well-being, time management, and self-awareness, the children explored the connection between their actions and consequences; and, ultimately, addressed how we can become more responsible for ourselves.
After focusing on the importance of dental health throughout the unit, the children showed in a variety of ways food can impact our teeth. Therefore, understanding how to take care of their teeth became very important for the children.
Paired with dental hygiene, and permeating into many other aspects of our health, the topic of food greatly interested the children. Between analyzing the food pyramid, using art to better understand food, seeing its impact on our bodies; dental health, eye health, and the benefits when it comes to exercise, the children further realized the important role food plays in terms of our individual health and well-being.
The children, after showing great interest in how to maintain healthy eyes, introduced the broad topic of eyes through several different aspects.
To instill the importance of physical exercise, while ensuring its connection with our overall well-being, the children learned about different ways we can exercise. Using a variety of creative measures throughout the unit, the children helped to show their parents how one can easily include exercise in their daily routine.
Following the first week of tuning in, and addressing the initial understand of their daily routine, the children turned their focus back towards the topic. Using a variety of measures; while, helping to better understand time management and time, the children focused on how to better take control of how they spend their time.
Lastly, with the objective of having the children take greater responsibility for their individual actions each day, the children turned to address how they can become more independent. Whether through direct discussions with their parents, or through pursuing their inquiries, gaining confidence by accomplishing daily tasks, the children aimed to lessen the load that their parents and caretakers carry each day.
We are all very proud of the children and hope you are as well. The children showed certainty, confidence, and comfort in presenting their knowledge, which is very encouraging when going further to pursue new inquiries. We encourage you at home, to push your children to further take hold of their independence in any way that they are able; whether it be in putting on their shoes, determining which healthy foods to eat or exercising. We thank you for your contribution, and look forward to your continued support.
